Nuove prospettive per Linee guida e buone pratiche clinico-assistenziali

Con la recente pubblicazione del Manuale Metodologico per le Raccomandazioni di Buona Pratica Clinico-Assistenziale (luglio 2024) e l’aggiornamento delle procedure per la produzione, valutazione e submission di linee guida nel Sistema Nazionale Linee Guida (SNLG), si aprono nuove sfide e opportunità per garantire documenti di alta qualità, basati sulle migliori evidenze disponibili e adattati al contesto nazionale.

A questi sviluppi si affianca il recente Disegno di Legge sulle Professioni Sanitarie, che con gli articoli 7 e 8 riconosce il valore centrale delle linee guida e delle buone pratiche clinico-assistenziali, rendendole sempre più il punto di riferimento per orientare l’attività clinica, introducendo nuovi criteri per la valutazione delle responsabilità professionali.

Queste novità rappresentano un’ulteriore spinta a garantire linee guida e raccomandazioni di buona pratica di alta qualità, aggiornate e metodologicamente solide, a beneficio sia dei professionisti sanitari sia della sicurezza dei pazienti.

Per supportare referenti, metodologi e ricercatori in questo compito strategico, la Fondazione GIMBE ha progettato un corso interattivo di due giornate dedicato a produzione, adattamento e aggiornamento di linee guida e raccomandazioni di buona pratica clinico-assistenziale, conforme agli standard internazionali e ai requisiti del SNLG.

Di seguito il programma del corso che si terrà a Bologna, il 30-31 ottobre 2025.

Position Overview

The Neuroimaging Lab within the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join our interdisciplinary research team. We specialize in advanced neuroimaging and the development of innovative imaging technologies with a strong emphasis on translational applications in robotics and neuroscience.

The appointed researcher will focus on investigating the neural basis of communicative social actions, with the aim of remapping these mechanisms into a humanoid robot (iCub). This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge project that bridges cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, and humanoid robotics.

Contract Info: The Research contract will start on 1st November 2025 and last for 2 years, renewable for an additional year. This open position is funded by Fondo Italiano per la Scienza grant.

Key Responsibilities

Design, conduct, and analyze functional MRI (fMRI) studies.
Apply advanced imaging techniques, including Voxel-Based Morphometry (VBM) and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI).
Analyze brain functional connectivity using static and dynamic models.
Employ Dynamic Causal Modeling (DCM) to investigate brain network dynamics.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, cognitive scientists, and roboticists.

Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and grant proposals.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise in fMRI research, including data acquisition and preprocessing.
Proficiency in neuroimaging analysis tools such as SPM, FSL, CONN, or comparable software.
Solid understanding of brain connectivity and network modeling techniques.
Experience with Dynamic Causal Modeling (DCM) is highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

The work funded by this scholarship will be carried out at the Research Unit on Theory of Mind, Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Milan, Italy. Within a paradigm of hybrid interactions between humans and social robots, in which behavioral and emotional attunement are fundamental, psychological constructs and cognitive models of trust-based exchanges will be respectively operationalized and implemented. These constructs and models will be based on the link between trust dynamics and Theory of Mind, conceived as the ability to understand and attribute emotional and epistemic mental states to others. The cognitive models will be tested in real-life situations through the lifespan to tailor them to the specific users' needs and to the different contexts of application. This will enable human-centered hybrid interactions between humans and social robots. The candidates'evaluation will consider possible expertise in cognitive/psychological sciences, programming and the design of models of interaction between humans and artificial agents.

Research Unit on Theory of Mind (UniToM)

In recent years, both interest in social robots and the possibility of humans interacting with them in various fields, from educational to clinical, have grown exponentially. Research to date teaches us that when objects have human-like characteristics - as in the case of anthropomorphic robots - humans relate to them 'as if they were' social partners, i.e. using the mechanisms of human social cognition to understand and interpret robot behaviour. This field of research, in which several disciplines, including robotics and psychology, collaborate, is called Human-Robot Interaction.

In recent years, the Research Unit on Theory of Mind (UniToM, directed by Antonella Marchetti and whose members include Davide Massaro, Cinzia Di Dio, Federico Manzi) - Department of Psychology, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan - has been studying the psychological components involved in interactions between humans and robots, combining knowledge from Developmental Psychology and Robotics. In fact, while Developmental Psychology studies the development of the cognitive, emotional, intellectual, and social capacities of human beings and their functioning throughout life, from infancy to old age, Robotics applies these notions to the implementation of neural networks that can allow the robot to 'learn' and behave appropriately with the humans.

To tackle this research challenge, an interdisciplinary approach is essential. In fact, UniToM has developed numerous national (Agnieszka Wykowska , IIT; Antonio Chella, University of Palermo; Daniele Nardi, La Sapienza University) and international collaborations (Angelo Cangelosi, University of Manchester; Hiroshi Ishiguro, University of Osaka; Shoji Itakura, Doshisha University; Takayuki Kanda, Kyoto University; Paul Harris, Harvard University; Michaela Gummerum, University of Warwick) with research centers in both robotics and psychology, to try to answer the various questions emerging from these new forms of interaction between humans and robotic agents.

In addition to the study of human-robot dynamics and relationships, UniToM, also thanks to its various interdisciplinary collaborations, is developing artificial cognitive models for more effective interactions between humans and robots. These models are inspired by the theories of social cognition and in particular Theory of Mind.

The PhD Track in Cognitive, Computational and Social Neurosciences (CCSN)

Activity

The appointed candidate will participate in the research activities of the MoMiLab Research Unit related to the analysis of brain activity through functional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and of brain structure through morphological MR imaging. The RTD-A Fellow should show expertise in the acquisition and analysis of brain imaging data to conduct independent and original research projects, but also to support collaborative projects on the neural correlates of sensorimotor processing and representations. These projects will require the exploitation of novel MRI-based data acquisition and analytical tools (e.g., multivariate pattern methods). In particular, research activities may regard:
- Development of experimental protocols to determine the neural correlates of perceptual/motor processing and representation
- Analysis of brain imaging dataset belonging to open-access (medical) image repositories
- Support to the data acquisition and processing of MRI data in the IMT-affiliated research centers
- Application/development of advanced MRI-based data analytical tools

Profile

The candidate must possess established expertise and a proven portfolio of research within the following research fields: signal processing of MRI data; (advanced) analysis of brain functional data; application of brain imaging processing and analysis methodologies to address the neural correlates. Important criteria also include knowledge of current status of research in the field of brain imaging applied to cognitive neuroscience; possibly established national and international collaborations; a proven record of publications in international scientific journals.

Formal requirements

PhD in a field related to the present call obtained in Italy or abroad. Curriculum with a suitable scientific background for carrying out research activity in the required field.

“The brain’s dark energy: observation, perturbation, and disrupt studies of brain networks to understand cognition and stroke recovery”

The laboratory of prof. Maurizio Corbetta at the Padova Neuroscience Center at Padova University is looking for outstanding postdoctoral candidates that will join a team of graduate and post-graduate researchers. The aim of the project is to understand the relationship between fMRI connectivity measures and EEG electrophysiology, and the propagation of signals measured with TMS/EEG in healthy controls and stroke patients. It is expected that applicants will be conducting research using fMRI and TMS/EEG data.

Your profile:

- PhD degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline - and previous experience in EEG and/or MRI data analysis.

- Excellent programming expertise (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R, Bash).

- Strong statistical experience and knowledge of multivariate classification and regression algorithms.

Applications are invited for 1 fully funded PhD position to work on the European Research Council Synergy funded project “Connecting to the Networks of the Human Brain – ConnectToBrain” (https://www.connecttobrain.eu/). The project is multi-national (Italy, Germany, Finland) and aims to develop and prepare for wide clinical use a multi-locus closed-loop transcranial magnetic stimulation technique.

ConnectToBrain consists of three main areas of development:

1. Multi-locus TMS (mTMS) coil array covering most of the cortical mantle and allowing real-time high-precision control over the locus, direction, intensity, and timing of the stimulation pulses

2. Real-time analysis of brain activity and connectivity by using high-density EEG and prior information from MRI, fMRI and MEG for brain-state-dependent stimulation

3. Demonstration of feasibility, safety, and effects of the developed techniques and methods, and their therapeutic utility in dysfunctional brain networks in Alzheimer’s disease and motor stroke

This PhD position is based at the Department of Neuroscience, Imaging and Clinical Sciences (DNISC - https://www.dnisc.unich.it) and at the Institute for Advanced Biomedical Technologies (ITAB - https://www.itab.unich.it) of the University of Chieti-Pescara, Italy. Given the multinational character of the ConnectToBrain project, students are expected to travel between the three partner sites.

DNISC is in an exciting phase of growth thanks to a recent national award for research excellence in Neurosciences. ITAB is a multi-modal neuroimaging research centre equipped with 3T MRI, MEG, EEG, infra-red imaging, brain stimulation techniques, and computing facilities and it is currently host institution of the ERC-SyG ConnectToBrain project.

The selected student will apply machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to identify brain activity/connectivity states from EEG data with and without neurostimulation in real time. Additionally, the selected student will contribute to the development of algorithms for real-time analysis of brain connectivity and to the design and implementation of TMS experiments to trigger stimulation at specified connectivity states.

The San Camillo IRCCS is a clinical and research center accredited by the Italian Ministry of Health for the study and treatment of neurological patients. It is the hub of a large neuroscientific and health care network, serving more than five million people in Venice-Veneto region, Italy.

We are looking for brilliant post-doctoral researchers with background in neuroscience, neurology, and engineering interested in working in the fields of translational neuroimaging, non-invasive brain stimulation, advanced neurophysiology, computational neuroscience.

Research activities are conducted in Venice and in collaboration with other internationally renowned partners (i.e. University of Padua, Leuven University, Montreal Neurological Institute - McGill University, and more).

You will have access to the following in-home equipment: simultaneous EEG-MEG (300+ sensors), 3T MRI scanner (Philips), hd-EEG (several systems, up to 250 channels), TMS (3 machines for all types of stimulations), tDCS/tACS (several, including high-resolution stimulation and simultaneous tDCS/EEG), near-infrared spectroscopy, two neuronavigation systems (optic and magnetic), eye tracking, BCI, instrumentation for simultaneous TMS-EEG and simultaneous EEG-fMRI, BCI and much more. In home genetic profiling will be soon available as well.

Salary and benefit package: Gross annual salary: 21000 to 30000 euros, depending on experience. University of Bari Aldo Moro: 2 open calls for research fellowships in neuroimaging genetics

The Group of Psychiatric Neuroscience at the University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy) aims to discover the biological sources of differences between individuals that make them at risk of - or resilient to - psychiatric disorders.

Ideally, the positions are targeted at postdoctoral fellows and funding is available for several years. Outstanding predoctoral candidates will be evaluated. Expected starting dates are between May and July 2020. Official deadline is March 18th.

The group is headed by Prof. Alessandro Bertolino and investigates the association of genetic variability with brain phenotypes, with a special focus on subjects at risk for psychiatric disorders (for recent articles from the lab, see [1], [2], [3]). Successful candidates will work in the lab of Brain Imaging, Networks, and Data mining (BIND) directed by Dr. Giulio Pergola. The department has an in-house Elekta Triux magnetoencephalography with two dedicated technicians. Two 3T MRI scanners are available in collaborating hospitals. Prof. Giuseppe Blasi and his team have access to and routinely tests patients, relatives of patients, and individuals at risk for psychosis. The environment is interdisciplinary, including psychologists, biotechnologists, and MDs, and internationally oriented, e.g., including Marie Curie awardees Dr. Pergola and Dr. Linda A. Antonucci, along with several other members trained for > 1 year in UK, USA, and Finland.

The ideal applicant is a neuroimager with international experience and a PhD in Neuroscience, Cognitive Sciences, Neuropsychology, Computational Science, or any quantitative research field. Coding experience (Matlab, R, Unix, and/or Python) is required, whereas machine learning and graph theory expertise are a plus. Successful candidates are expected to have at least one published/submitted lead author paper. We expect the successful candidate to be motivated and research-oriented. It is equally important to have a team-working attitude and a motivation to fit in the group. Proficiency in Italian is not required.

Consider applying even if you only have strong coding and analytic skills – definitely apply if you think you have smart ideas on how to analyze multimodal neuroimaging/genetic/neuropsychological data from hundreds of subjects.

The University of Bari Aldo Moro is one the largest Italian universities (50.000 students, 1500 permanent professors and researchers, 1500 units of technicians and administrative staff). Sarà presto disponibile un assegno di ricerca per un ricercatore post-doc per collaborare ad un progetto su plasticità cognitiva e cerebrale negli anziani sani, sotto la supervisione di Veronica Mazza e Carlo Miniussi

Il progetto intende verificare l’efficacia di diverse procedure di training sulle funzioni cognitive, e prevede l’uso combinato di misure comportamentali ed altre metodiche di neuro immagine. Il contratto iniziale è per 12 mesi, ma sarà esplorata la possibilità di estensione per altri 12/24 mesi. Lo stipendio netto sarà tra 1500 e 1800 Euro/mese.

Bridging electrical, metabolic and functional resting state brain networks via simultaneously recorded multimodal (hd-EEG/PET/MR) data (BRAINMAP). This project aims at mapping the multivariate relationship between glucose metabolism measured with PET, and simultaneously acquired fMRI, DTI, and high-density EEG signals in order to understand the source of resting activity high metabolic rate. PhD position at UCLouvain

PhD position at the Institute of Neuroscience of the University of Louvain (Brussels, Belgium)

The Pain Research Lab at the UCLouvain tries to understand the neural mechanisms underlying the perception of pain and its impairments in humans. The lab is looking for a PhD candidate to conduct a research project aimed to investigate the influence of attentional processes on the development of central sensitization to painful stimuli using behavioral and physiological measures (see abstract below). The project will be supervised by Valéry Legrain.

The project is funded by the F.R.S.-FNRS, the fund for Scientific Research of French-speaking Belgium, covering the salary of the enrolled PhD candidate for 4 years and his/her functioning budget. Position should start between 1^st of January and 1^st July 2020.

The candidate should hold at the starting of the position a Master degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as Experimental Psychology, Neuropsychology, Neuroscience, Biomedical & Health Sciences. The candidate should have experience in designing experiments, collecting, analyzing and communicating data. He/she should have good communication skills in English (despite the French language is the official language of the institution, its mastering is not mandatory). Experience in programming is an added value (e.g. Matlab or equivalent).

The candidate should submit (1) a detailed CV summarizing experience, background, and communication outputs if available, (2) a summary of research interests, and (3) recommendation letters from at least two references. Summary of the project: Pain is an emergency signal warning the brain about the occurrence of a stimulus having the potential to damage the body. Sensitization is a process that consists in amplifying the response to pain consecutive to the repetition of the noxious stimulation. Sensitization is thought to play a role in the development of chronic pain. On the other side, psychological factors are known to modulate the experience of pain and are also suggested to play a role in the development and the maintenance of chronic pain. It is therefore hypothesized that cognitive factors such as attention could influence the risk of chronic pain by modulating the strength and the extent of sensitization. This project aims at observing in healthy volunteers the impact of attention on a lab model of sensitization of the central nervous system consecutive to repeated experimentally-induced painful electrical stimuli. More precisely, the project aims to manipulate the attention that participants direct to vs. discard from the painful stimuli during their induction and to observe how it modulates secondary hyperalgesia, i.e. the increased sensitivity to mechanical pinprick stimuli applied several tens of minutes later around the sensitized skin area. Manipulating different attentional aspects, it is predicted that voluntarily directing attention towards the sensitized limb will increase the consequences of sensitization. The call for applications for the 2018/19 PhD Programs is officially open! The Cognitive and Cultural Systems PhD Program offers two Tracks: Analysis and Management of Cultural Heritage (AMCH) and Cognitive, Computational and Social Neurosciences (CCSN). The two tracks affiliated with the Systems Science PhD Program are Computer Science and Systems Engineering (CSSE) and Economics, Networks and Business Analytics (ENBA). For each Program 18 positions are available, for a total of 36 spots.

Admitted students, in addition to free room and board, will also receive a research scholarship, which amounts to approximately 15,300 Euro/year (gross). For more information on the Programs, in addition to the online application form, please see the link below.
