WHAT?

Growing evidence has been accumulated for the involvement of the cerebellum in higher-order cognitive and affective functions. Going beyond a prominent role in motor processing, the forward models generated by the cerebellum may also support cognitive and emotional processing in social interactions. This has important implications not only for the description of the cerebro-cerebellar circuits that underpin social cognition, but also for understanding and treating cognitive and affective deficits in neurological, psychiatric, and neurodevelopmental disorders. 

WHY?

The workshop aims to foster the study of The Social Cerebellum by gathering outstanding scholars in the field who will present the most recent advances of their research. The workshop is organized by the Scientific Institute IRCCS E. Medea (www.emedea.it) and supported by a grant from the Italian Ministry of Health (GR-2016-02363640- Neurocognitive underpinnings of social perception abilities in congenital and acquired cerebellar disorders: Neuropsychological evaluation and treatment) to Cosimo Urgesi (@ IRCCS E. Medea) and Zaira Cattaneo (@ IRCCS Fondazione Mondino).
